About Us

Shalom Magazine is the Jewish free magazine distributed in Massachusetts that is connecting the whole community. Shalom Magazine is a colorful magazine in English and it is distributed at places that are visited by Jewish people, such as JCCs, temples, stores and restaurants. Printed since April 2009, we are the only local independent free Jewish magazine that is not sponsored by any institution, therefore we cover the subjects of all the community. Shalom Magazine has an estimated 40,000 readers per edition (print and online). Our printed version has an average of 50 glossy and full color letter size pages. Shalom Magazine covers local issues, has opinion articles as well as information about Israel and Jews from around the world. We also send an electronic version of the magazine by email to people in our database.

Some of our points of distribution (more than 100) are located in Brookline, Newton, Needham, Chestnut Hill, Worcester, Framingham, Westboro, Sharon, Stoughton, Marblehead, Peabody, Boston and Norwood, to name just a few.

You will find our free magazine at Jewish locations such as temples and kosher bakeries as well as at Shaw’s and Roche Bros. supermarkets in Massachusetts and Providence, RI.

Shirley Nigri Farber, a Brazilian Jewish journalist and Massachusetts resident, created the publication. Since September 2005, Mrs. Farber has hosted a successful bilingual TV show, called Bate Papo (chat) com Shirley. The show is aired in more than 25 local stations in Massachusetts and on Comcast on Demand in CT, MA, NH, VT and ME. She is also the publisher of the magazine Bate Papo. In order to create Shalom Magazine she used years of experience working in the Jewish media, as well as having her own Jewish radio program for over 4 years in Rio de Janeiro. Mrs. Farber was also the correspondent in Brazil for Jewish Telegraphic Agency and for Radio Kol Israel.

We encourage all members of the community to participate, write articles, send their photos and of course sponsor our Shalom Magazine. We also provide event coverage to promote your organization.
